How to See the Commissions Interactive Brokers Charges You, Trade by Trade

The commission on a trade doesn’t show up on the screen where you place it. It’s in a report, inside a column you don’t spot at first glance, and today’s commissions don’t even appear in the usual report. Let me walk you through how to get to each one.

Performance & Reports → Statements

Log in to the Client Portal (if you don’t know how, it’s explained here). In the menu click “Performance & Reports”, then “Statements” and, inside, “Activity” (the activity statement). There you choose the period in which you made the trade.

One date or the whole month

You can enter a specific day or the whole month; in the video the current month is chosen so more trades appear and it’s easier to see. There’s one catch, though. Today’s commissions don’t appear in this report, but there’s a shortcut for those, further down.

The column you’re looking for is the fee

With the statement open, go to the trades section. You’ll see the trades you’ve made and, next to them, a column with the fee (“Comm/Fee”), which is the one that tells you how much you were charged. On the trade in the video, one dollar. As simple as that.

The total, already in euros

At the bottom you get the sum of all of them. Since the account in the video has the euro as its base currency, the total appears converted: two dollars of commission across the buy and the sell come to 1.72 euros.

Today’s commissions

If you traded today and want to know right away how much you were charged, the activity statement won’t do. Go to “Trade Confirmations” (in the Spanish interface the translation changes from time to time and isn’t very good, so if the name varies, look for something similar). This report does let you enter today’s date. It’s a slightly different report, but it also lists the trades and has the same column.

The screens in the video are from September 2026. Interactive Brokers tweaks its design every so often; the menu path stays the same, although a button may have moved.

One last tip: open the current month and look at the total. Do you know how much you’ve paid in commissions? And if you haven’t linked your account to ProRealTime yet, in this article I walk you through how.
